The 2018 edition of the Pakistan Super League was yet another disappointing outing for the Lahore Qalandars. They finished at the bottom of the points table in the season and failed to make it to the playoffs. Despite the poor show, the Brendon McCullum-led side had a few very good positives. Among the lot was batsman Agha Salman. Agha Salman was one of the top performers of the season.
He certainly showed he is capable of doing great work in the middle-order. Recently, Agha Salman spoke at length about how Brendon McCullum kept him motivated throughout the season. He noted that it was amazing to play under the former Kiwi skipper. Also, he revealed that Brendon McCullum was a very humble person and a very friendly cricketer to interact with.
“It was an amazing experience playing under his leadership. Regardless of his stature in cricket, McCullum is the type of a player who never made anyone feel that he is senior or superior to others,” Agha Salman quoted as per the quotes in PakPassion.
“I must admit that when I met him for the first time, I was a little nervous and worried about coming into contact with an international star. But once I met him, I realised that there was nothing to worry about,” he added further.
‘Work hard and play for Pakistan’
Commenting further on the same note, Agha Salman continued praising McCullum. He remarked that the former cricketer motivated his team in the best possible way. His words would often reverberate in the ears of the players and they got inspired by them. He also noted that McCullum told him to work hard and strive to play for the national side. Agha added that getting such praises and motivation from a legendary cricketer meant a world to him.
“McCullum was always there to advise us throughout the tournament but the words that really stood out in my mind were stated by him when I was returning to Pakistan. He simply said ‘work hard, play hard and play for Pakistan’. He also told me that I had a bright future for Pakistan and I have to say receiving such praise from one of the world’s top-players is a matter of pride for me and something I will cherish for a long time,” recalled Salman.
