The bid to revive cricket in Pakistan is on its way with the successful hosting of the final of the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). It was a jubilant atmosphere as many players got the opportunity to play in front of their home crowd for the very first time. The captain of Multan Sultans and the senior most member of the Pakistan team, Shoaib Malik shared his views on the revival of cricket in Pakistan and the young emerging talent that already bursts on to the scene.
Young lot has all qualities
Malik felt confident with the future of Pakistan in international cricket as he sees a bunch of young and talented cricketers moving higher up the ranks. In his views, the lot possesses all the qualities of the legends that defined Pakistan cricket in previous times. When asked about a specific player, “I can’t identify a single one among them, they are all good on their respective fields. They often reminds me of former cricketers that I have played with them in past, “he said.
With the likes of Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf and many others, have shown glimpses to go a long way with their quality exhibition in PSL. “They all posses same qualities like our legends had and credit goes to PCB for keep giving them opportunities to showcase their skills,” former captain of Pakistan was quoted as saying by Business Recorder.
His role in the side
A veteran of 252 ODIs and 87 T20Is, Shoaib Malik mentioned about his role in the side given they are a bunch of young cricketers who are willing to perform on the big stage. As a senior player in the side, he adorns the role of an adviser who can really groom the juniors in helping them adopt the different conditions. “The problem is here in our country, people look for big names, big names cannot win matches, team unity is required to win matches, “he added.
Pakistan, who are due to play three T20Is against the Windies beginning this April, has recruited many young guns in their squad against the World Champions. Looking at the Windies’ squad, Malik reckons this as a worthy group of T20 players who have performed well in the past. “I have played Carribean Premier League (CPL) with players picked by West Indies cricket board for Pakistan tour and they all have performed well in the league, can’t be complacent against them, ” he concluded.
