“Your future is as bright as your faith”- Ravi Shastri congratulates India after Nagpur-triumph
Shastri was elated after the Men in Blue's 500th ODI victory.
Team India registered a hard-fought win over Australia in Nagpur in the second ODI of the five-match series and in the process also became the second team to win 500 ODIs. The closely contested match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur saw India defeating Australia by 8 runs to clinch a 2-0 lead in the series.
The match saw India batting first on a difficult pitch after Finch won the toss and chose to field. Virat Kohli compiled a sublime 116, his 40th ODI century and along with Shankar (46) and Jadeja took the Indian total to 250. Pat Cummins did the most damage by picking 4 wickets.
In reply, Australia were looking coasting towards a victory but Jasprit Bumrah picked 2 wickets in the 46th over to turn the tide after Kuldeep Yadav picked 3/54 in the middle overs. Vijay Shankar bowled a brilliant last over as he defended 11 runs and picked two wickets including the dangerous Marcus Stoinis to win the match for his team.

Head coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri, who is also a former Indian captain, was elated with Team India’s record making victory. Under his guidance and Virat Kohli’s leadership, the Indian team stands head and shoulders above the rest in every format of the game.
India are currently ranked no.2 in ODI cricket, a few points below no.1 ranked England. Shastri took to Twitter to post a congratulatory message for the team that read “Your future is as bright as your faith.”

Facts about India’s 500th ODI win
India played its first ODI in 1974 against England under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar and took 45 years and it took 963 ODIs for India to register its 500th win. The only other team to win 500 ODIs is Australia, which has 558 wins from 924 matches. India have 414 losses, the most by any team in ODI cricket, 9 tied matches and 40 no results, giving them a win percentage of 54.65.
India’s first ODI win had come under captain Srinivas Venkataraghavan against East Africa in the inaugural Cricket World Cup at Leeds on June 11 in 1975. The 100th win came against South Africa in 1993. India defeated Kenya in 2000 in Nairobi to register its 200th ODI win, while the 300th win came in 2007 in Cuttack, when India beat the West Indies. India’s 400th ODI win was over Sri Lanka, by 6 wickets, in Colombo in the year 2012.
