‘Your leadership, fighting spirit, and legacy will be remembered’ - Babar Azam pays tribute to MS Dhoni
Babar is currently in England, playing the three-match Test series.
MS Dhoni, the veteran Indian cricketer, on Saturday, August 15, retired from international cricket. The 39-year-old put forth a message on Instagram where he gave a glimpse of the ups and downs of his career. The Jharkhand-born decorated it with the popular song ‘Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hu’ and made his fans and well-wishers nostalgic.
It’s been a couple of days since he bid goodbye and it’s still sinking in- the fact that Dhoni won’t be donning the national jersey anymore. There was a chance of him getting picked for the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, that the mega event had to be postponed might have prompted the decision from the veteran keeper.
MS Dhoni to play in the IPL
He will next be seen in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), starting September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). There he plies his trade for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and along with Suresh Raina, who also retired, he will be playing in the tournament.
In the meantime, Pakistan’s Babar Azam had some words of praises for Dhoni. The 25-year-old, who has come up the ranks in the last few years, said that Dhoni’s legacy will never be forgotten.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Congrats on such a remarkable career @msdhoni. Your leadership, fighting spirit and legacy will always be remembered in the cricket world. I wish you enough light and shine in every aspect of your life. #MSDhoni.”
Here’s Babar’s tweet
Babar is currently in England, playing the three-match Test series, which the hosts are leading 1-0. The right-hander has had a decent outing thus far, having scored 121 runs at an average of 40.33. It goes without saying that if Pakistan have to draw level in the third and final Test, the Lahore, Punjab-born will have to weave magic with the bat in hand.
In the World Test Championship, Babar has done exceptionally. He started with a few decent knocks against Australia with a century and a score in the 90s. Then he notched tons versus Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, giving a glimpse of his illustrious journey.
