Yusuf Pathan releases statement following suspension by BCCI
Yusuf reasoned out that he was under medication for a throat infection.
Veteran Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan found himself in the news for the wrong reasons recently. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended him in October 2017 for five months citing a breach in the anti-doping code of the cricket board. The senior Pathan was found to have consumed a prohibited substance.
The reports of his suspension went viral in the media and many wondered if that could bring down the curtains for the entertaining all-rounder ahead of the IPL auctions. However, Yusuf Pathan recently posted a media release statement in which he clarified all the aspects of the entire episode. Much to the relief of his fans, Yusuf can be back in cricketing action after midnight January 14, 2018 – the date when his suspension period ends.
In his press release statement, Yusuf Pathan mentioned that he had received a letter from the BCCI back in October 2017 stating that he had failed the dope test for the substance called ‘terbuteline’. Yusuf reasoned out that he was under medication for a throat infection. And the medicine that he took for the same contained the banned substance. He pleaded innocent in the matter.
“I had received a letter from the BCCI on 27.10.2017, stating that I had failed a doping test for the substance ‘terbuteline’. The prohibited substance was detected in my sample because of a medicine I was taking for a throat infection,” mentioned Yusuf.
Adding further on the same note, he remarked that playing for India and Baroda comes as a matter of immense pride for him. He would never do anything that would bring disrespect to his game and his teams. He assured that he will be more careful in taking the medications henceforth.
“Competing for India and my home state Baroda has been a matter of immense pride and encouragement for me and I would never act in any manner to bring my motherland or Baroda, in any kind of disrepute. I would like to once again assure to the BCCI, Baroda Cricket Association and my fans and I promise to be more careful with what I consume henceforth,” remarked Yusuf Pathan.
The hard-hitting all-rounder thanked the almighty for his grace and also expressed his excitement on getting back to the playing field after January 14, 2018.
Yusuf was part of two-time IPL winning team Kolkata Knight Riders side and finished many games successfully for the side in the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2018 auctions are round the corner and Yusuf, surely, will be one of the biggest attractions at the auction. Yusuf posted a tweet in which he added the media release note as well.
