'Yuvi hai ya Bumrah' - Sachin Tendulkar as Jasprit Bumrah smacks Stuart Broad in most expensive Test over

The Indian tail wagged on the morning of the second day of the rescheduled fifth Test in Birmingham as India added 78 runs in 11.5 overs to their overnight score of 338/7. The highlight of the morning was Jasprit Bumrah’s breathtaking cameo, as he scored 35 off a Stuart Broad over. Social media was buzzing after the chaotic over and  even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar wasn’t able to hide his excitement.

The stand-in Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah joined Ravindra Jadeja at the crease after the dismissal of Mohammed Shami. Bumrah was supposed to hold one end as the centurion Jadeja was trying to add quick runs to the Indian tally. But the southpaw was knocked over by James Anderson on the score of 104. India were 375/9 and looked to fall short of the 400-run mark, but the Indian skipper took matters into his own hands in the next over as he went after Broad’s bowling.

As Broad conceded 35 runs in that over, the most by a bowler in an over in Tests, the Indian fans were taken back in time as it was reminiscent of the famous over where Yuvraj Singh hit the same bowler for six sixes which yielded a world record 36 runs. The over took place almost 15 years ago in a match between England and India in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.

Former Indian batter and cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar reacted to Bumrah’s power-hitting display in a Tweet that read, “Kya yeh Yuvi hai ya Bumrah!? 2007 ki yaad dilaa di..”, and mentioned Yuvraj Singh in that Tweet as well.

The England bowlers once again falter against the lower middle-order

England are coming into the fifth Test after a high of whitewashing New Zealand in the recently concluded Test series. But the English bowlers struggled against the lower middle order pair of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell throughout the three-match series as the pair stitched four century stands against the English bowlers. The hosts found similar foes in Pant and Jadeja, who milked runs with quite an ease at the crease and recorded a 222-run stand for the sixth wicket. Something to ponder for ‘Baz and Ben’.
