Chairman of Selectors MSK Prasad announced the Indian squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka and the Tests against South Africa. He was accompanied by BCCI’s acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary and spoke at length with the press about the different facets taken into consideration before selecting these teams.
One of the major disappointment for the Indian fans was the exclusion of star all-rounders Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Many fans believe these both stalwarts, who have enough experience under their belt, might be the solution to the number 4 conundrum in Indian cricket. But the selection panel had other ideas and prefered youngsters like Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer ahead of them.
Happy that Yuvraj cleared the Yo-Yo Test
After many failed attempts, Yuvraj finally cleared the Yo-Yo Test and many fans were happy to listen to this. Whilst addressing the press, Mr Prasad said Yuvraj wasn’t just dropped because of the rotation policy, but also because he had fitness issues. Having said that, he also expressed his tranquillity for the 36-year-old for clearing the Yo-Yo Tests.
“Yuvraj had fitness issues. Am happy he has cleared those now. He hasn’t played much so we are going to wait and see once he has had some game time. We will definitely consider him in the times to come,” said MSK Prasad.
Yuvraj Singh prefered to sideline the Ranji Trophy games to spend more time at the National Cricket academy, which didn’t go down well with various experts. Punjab had a forgettable Ranji Trophy and finished third in Group D, which led to their exile from this year’s edition in the most dissapointing way.
When a media official asked him if the selectors and the team management asked him to spend time in the National Cricket Academy instead of playing Ranji Trophy, MSK Prasad said he might not be able to answer that. He also confirmed that ever suggested him to skip the Ranji games.
