After retiring from international cricket back in May, Yuvraj Singh is currently playing for the Toronto Nationals in the Global T20 Canada 2019. Though he has been facing issues with his back, he has wielded magic with the bat, scoring quite a few runs and rolling back the years. It has now been learned that he may be roped in for the T10 league, scheduled to start on November 15, 2019.
Along with Yuvraj, the likes of Ambati Rayudu are likely to grace present in the tournament as well. Rayudu announced his retirement from international cricket after being left of the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.
“We are very optimistic, and I think it is more about a number than willingness. Yuvraj has a certain expectation, and we can only afford so much, let us put it that way. We are trying to bridge that gap, but the intention is very clear: he definitely wants to play.
The same goes for other players who are retiring. There is an ongoing conversation, so we are pretty optimistic,” Shaji Ul Mulk, the chairman and founder of the T10 championship, was quoted as saying in The National.
More than one team wants Yuvraj
The league was played in Sharjah last season and has now shifted to the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Indian players like RP Singh, Pravin Tambe, and Zaheer Khan took part in the extravaganza in 2018. As per the chairman, the team owners pay the salaries even as the competition organisers “facilitate the deal”.
“Yuvraj or Ambati Rayudu, for example, will agree on a number, we will float that number to the team owners, then they have the choice. Usually, more than one team owner wants to have a name like Yuvraj, so then it goes to the draft, and it is up to the pick as to who gets him,” he added.
Ul Mulk also mentioned that Eoin Morgan, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell and Shahid Afridi have all confirmed their return. Sammy was the skipper of the Northern Warriors, that got their hands on the trophy, beating the Pakhtoons by 22 runs in the final.
