It will be a homecoming for Shikhar Dhawan this season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he will feature for the Delhi Capitals (DC). The presence of the limited-overs batting specialist will bolster the strength of the Delhi team which has remained an under-achiever in the IPL, so will the roping in of former India captain Sourav Ganguly as the franchise’s advisor.
Dhawan, like Ganguly in his playing days, also opens for India and is one of the most accomplished left-handed batsmen the Indian team has seen since the departure of the former captain in 2008. The presence of Ganguly is likely to help the flamboyant batsman improve his game, especially ahead of the World Cup.
Dhawan has not been in great form and hit just one big score of 143 in over a month in international cricket. The 33-year-old batsman’s opening partnership with Rohit Sharma will be crucial for India in the WC.
Shikhar Dhawan recently shared a picture of him with Ganguly – both wearing the practice kit of the DC and he made it more interactive by asking the fans to caption the picture. “So, what are we talking about? Caption this and tell me Dada mujhse kya kah rahe hain?” Dhawan asked on Instagram.
‘Bowl wearing full sleeves’
Dhawan’s former mate in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Yuvraj Singh was waiting in the wings. Seeing Gabbar’s post, Yuvraj at once took a jibe at the former. In his witty reply, the 37-year-old hard-hitting batsman said, “He’s saying jatt ji if you bowl in the IPL please make sure your wearing full sleeves T-shirt.” In the picture, Dhawan is seen wearing a half-sleeve T-shirt that made his tattooed arms visible.
Yuvraj is playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in this edition of the IPL. DC and MI will play their first match of this season against each other at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it will be a good game to watch with two former SRH mates appearing in the opposite ranks.
