Yuvraj Singh demands severe punishment for Amit Bhandari's attackers
Bhandari is reportedly out of danger.
Veteran cricketer Yuvraj Singh has taken to Twitter to call out for justice to Amit Bhandari and punishment to his attackers. The former Indian cricketer and Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) chairman of senior selection committee Amit Bhandari was attacked in New Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area on Monday afternoon at the St Stephen’s Ground. The trials of the Under-23 team for Mushtaq Ali Trophy were underway.
The attack instilled enormous rage all around and famous Indian cricketers took to social media to announce their fury regarding the incident. Bhandari’s alleged attackers are speculated to be a fringe of U-23 hopefuls who reportedly weren’t selected in the team. Hence the vengeance was executed in the form of violence. Bhandari, who runs a Cricket Academy in Delhi, was attacked with iron rods and hockey sticks during the trials.
Cricketers condemn the issue
The group of assailants fled the scene before the police could arrive. The victim was admitted in the Sant Parmanand Hospital, by his co-selector Sukhvinder Singh, after immediately after the incident. The attack has caused several injuries on his head and legs. But he is reportedly out of danger.
Bhandari has also broken his silence- “I’ve given my statement to the police. I’ve given them the reason of selection and the names (of attackers) as well.” It is likely that the offenders will get caught. The entire Cricket community is furious and has called for justice to Bhandari.
Veteran cricketers like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have also tweeted their concerns. To quote Viru: “The attack on Delhi selector Amit Bhandari for not picking a player is a new low and I am hopeful that stringent action will be taken against the culprit and adequate measures will be taken to avoid such incidents.”
Yuvraj Singh took to Twitter some time back and weighed in on the Amit Bhandari incident. In response to Sehwag’s aforementioned Tweet, he wrote: “Absolutely agree with Viru ! This kind of inhuman act can never be tolerated. Strict action needs be taken against all the culprits involved ,wishing Amit Bhandari a speedy recovery.”
