Yuvraj Singh was disappointed on not being picked, says Mother Shabnam Singh
Shabnam Singh: Virat has always supported Yuvraj.
Yuvraj Singh’s mother Shabnam Singh sounded confident on her son attaining fitness and making a comeback to the Indian side. While there hasn’t been a clear statement from the selectors regarding his omission, it’s been revealed that the prime factor behind Yuvraj Singh’s exclusion is his reduced level of fitness. Apparently, there’s an endurance test called Yo-Yo where the level of passing is 16 while Yuvraj measured at 15.1. Hence to be liable for selection, he will have to ace the test.
Speaking to AAJ TAK, Shabnam Singh revealed Yuvraj’s reaction on getting dropped, his future plans and also the motivation he has received around him.
On being dropped for the Sri Lanka tour
Yuvraj Singh was deemed to be ‘rested’ by the selectors for the Sri Lankan tour. He was even ignored for the One Day Internationals against Australia. His mom admitted that there was a sense of disappointment but also that he’ll soon catch up.
“Of course he was disappointed on not being picked but then the rules are the same for everyone. He doesn’t give up easily and I’m sure he looks forward to this as a challenge. If you see over the recent years, there has been a level of improvement and he will soon match up to the current fitness standards.”
On what lies in the future for Yuvraj
She remarked that Yuvraj had already achieved everything he ever wanted and he’s just eager to continue bringing laurels for the country. “He has nothing left to prove. He has won the World Cup and he even won the IPL last year. But it’s his love and hunger for the game which drives him to continue contributing towards his nation. Also, I don’t think anyone has the right to ask him when to retire. It’s his decision and whenever he feels he has done enough, he will do that.”
On the motivation, he has received from people around him
“His Guruji has given him a lot of motivation. Also, Sachin Tendulkar has been a huge inspiration for him since he too has gone through a lot of ups and downs. He follows his advises without a second thought. His friends too keep motivating him every now and then.”
She also spoke about how supportive the current Indian skipper has been
“Virat has always supported Yuvraj. And when someone as fit like him is at the helm, he would surely want the environment around him to be the same which is a good thing. The age factor does come up with Yuvi but I’m sure he will work harder to achieve the same.”
