Yuvraj Singh last donned the Indian jersey way back in the series against West Indies in June-July. Since then, the left-handed batsman has been out in the cold, trying to make a return to the national side. There is no secret about the fact that he has failed the Yo-Yo test on certain occasion and therefore the endurance test is the current roadblock, which he wants to cross.
The 35-year-old all-rounder is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, and he is preparing for the Yo-Yo test, a mandatory test to check the aerobic endurance fitness. India are yet to seal the no.4 spot with a reliable batsman and therefore Yuvraj has got an eye at that spot. It has been believed that the selectors have kept a window open for the experienced cricketer, and therefore he just needs to pass the fitness test with flying colors.
Uncertainty at the fourth spot
Since the 2015 World Cup, Yuvraj has batted the most at the no.4 spot, scoring 358 runs from 10 games at an average of 44.75. But the important point here is out of those runs, he scored 150 in one match against England during the start of the year. Only MS Dhoni has scored more than 300 runs in that particular slot apart from Yuvraj. As many as eleven batsmen have auditioned for that particular slot, with the latest being Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav. But both couldn’ cement the spot. All-rounder Hardik Pandya too looks pretty unsettled and therefore the place is up for grabs.
He will soon turn 36 in December, and Yuvraj knows that this the time for a swansong in what has been an illustrious career so far. He has participated in the Ranji Trophy, playing for Punjab, the southpaw scored 20 and 42 in his last competitive outing. Punjab was handed an innings defeat in that particular game by Vidarbha.
