The duo of Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh feature on the list of the players for Punjab for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali zonal league. The tournament starts on the 7th of January, while the Indian team is playing South Africa in the first Test. Both the veterans were part of the Punjab side that featured in the Ranji Trophy, where they could not make inroads into the later stages of the tournament. While Harbhajan played two games for his state, Yuvraj played only one in Ranji Trophy. However, the offie is selected as the skipper for Punjab with Yuvraj being his deputy.
The duo was left out of the retention process
The management would be hoping for their full representation for Punjab’s qualification to the knock-out stages of the tournament. However, it is also necessary for the duo to take part after having being left out of the retention squad in the Indian Premier League. There is a slight chance that the Mumbai Indians might use the RTM card to purchase the offie which is dependent on his performance in the tournament. On the other hand, Yuvraj too has been left out of the Sunrisers scheme of things.
For the left-handed all-rounder, a successful season would mean a return to the national team as well as getting a team in the IPL. Recently, the left-hander completed his yo-yo test and has had a good result from it, which makes him eligible for national team selection.
Suresh Raina makes it into the Uttar Pradesh squad
The left-handed Suresh Raina would feature once again in the UP squad, despite his poor form in the Ranji Trophy. Raina has already joined practise session, under the guidance of Sujith Somasunder and Mansur Ali Khan.
UP’s management is almost certain to keep the left-hander as the skipper of the team despite his lacklustre performance in the Ranji where he could not help UP to a single win. Raina, on the other hand, was retained by the Chennai Super Kings who returned to the IPL after missing out of the tournament for two years.
