Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer, is most likely to take part in the upcoming edition of the Euro T20 Slam. The tournament will be held in Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland from August 30 to September 22. A few days ago, the southpaw hung his boots from the international arena and expressed his desire to ply his trade in various T20 tournaments across the globe.

The 38-year-old Chandigarh-born all-rounder earlier confirmed his participation for the Toronto Nationals in the second edition of the Global T20 in Canada, scheduled to get underway on July 25. The development that Yuvraj will be taking part in the Euro T20 Slam was confirmed by Dean Jones, one of the board members of the tournament’s advisory committee.

Jones said that due to the strict rules and regulations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), many Indian cricketers are announcing their retirement. Manpreet Gony, who represented India in a couple of ODIs, also retired to get a clearance to feature for Toronto Nationals in Global T20 Canada. Jones reckons that India is a ‘big market’ for the T20 tournament.

India is going to be big market for us

“There are a few things going on in Indian cricket and since BCCI is not giving permission to take part in foreign T20 leagues, some Indian cricketers are announcing retirement so they can be free to play anywhere they want. Yuvraj Singh is one of them and he’s confirmed to us his interest to join the Euro T20 Slam,” Jones, also a former Australian cricketer, was quoted as saying in CricketNext.

“India is going to be big market for us. It’s T20 cricket and who can be a bigger draw than Yuvraj Singh in this format. We are hoping to sign up a couple of more Indian players in the next couple of weeks before the drafts for the league takes place in London on July 19. Keep watching this space,” he added.

Furthermore, Deano also mentioned that the likes of Dale Steyn and Andre Russell, both of whom have been ruled out of the ongoing World Cup, can be a part of the league. Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has also shown his interest to play the Euro T20 Slam as well.
