Yuvraj Singh, who announced his retirement from international cricket recently, was inarguably one of the best ODI players India has ever produced. He owned the no.5 position in the batting order for a really long time and some of his knocks against the best of the best are still etched in the minds of cricket lovers not only in India but all over the world as well. Now he sees the same talent in the young Delhiite Rishabh Pant, who was recently confirmed to replace Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian squad for the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.
Dhawan who fractured his left thumb during the match against Australia was told by the doctors that his hand will be in a cast for the better part of July and there is no hope of him recovering for the knockout stages of the tournament. Meanwhile, Yuvraj had called time on his India career on June 10 talked about Pant and what prospect he sees for the 21-year-old.
Yuvi was impressed with the two overseas Test hundreds that the left-hander scored in Australia and England. Not just that, but his approach and attacking batting has made the former Indian all-rounder believe that the keeper-batsman will go onto do greater things in the national jersey.
“Rishabh Pant has the potential to be better than me. And he has proven himself in a short span of time. He scored two test hundreds away – in Australia and England. He has a lot of potential. He has it in him to be a very attacking and match winning left hander. I am really looking forward to seeing him in the next few years,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
The young wicketkeeper-batsman had posted a heartfelt message for Yuvraj after his retirement and Yuvi replied saying, “I will make sure that you achieve more than me, and I’ll be keeping a check on you”

Though Pant has been added into the Men in Blue squad, he might have to wait for his opportunity to get into playing XI. KL Rahul has moved into the opening position where he scored a fifty against Pakistan and Vijay Shankar, who replaced Dhawan in the same match, did well with two wickets and scoring 15* runs.
