Out of favour Indian batsmen, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina found support in former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin as in his latest statements, he claimed that he doesn’t have the grasp on the concept of Yo-Yo Test, but feels like players such as Yuvi and Raina should be provided with some relaxation regarding fitness.

The last time Yuvraj Singh featured in the Indian team was back in the West Indies where he injured his hamstring during the ODI series. Yuvraj was part of India’s Champions Trophy campaign and made a sensational comeback into the Indian side with his innings against England at Cuttack (150).

Suresh Raina has, however, been out of the Indian side for a notable amount of time. Since he was dropped from the Indian side post his disastrous series against South Africa back in 2015. He has sporadically been part of the Indian T20 squad. The last time he represented India was back in the Bangalore match against England.

Yuvi and Raina failed the Yo-Yo Test ahead of Lanka series

“I really don’t know what the Yo-Yo Test is, but as far as fitness is concerned, everyone has to be fit. If you are not fit, you don’t play. But I feel there are players (who are) almost in the twilight of their careers but still very, very good. Maybe fitness for them can be relaxed a little,” claimed Mohammad Azharuddin according to Sports360.

Both Yuvraj and Raina took part in the fitness test held at NCA, Bengaluru ahead of the Sri Lankan series. Both failed to make the cut into the Indian side after failing the Yo-Yo Test.

“Like for a player like Yuvraj, he has gone through so much because of his illness (cancer). I don’t think he would have passed the ‘Yo-Yo’ test. There are other players as well. I am a very big fan of Suresh Raina. I feel he should come back. I saw him one and a half months back and he has become very fit. But if the team has taken a decision, you need to back it,” concluded Azhar.
