It has been a long layoff without taking the field for the Indian cricketers due to the Coronavirus enforced lockdown. Currently, the players are in the UAE to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and are training hard to regain their fitness. However, this hasn’t been a problem for four young cricketers from Punjab thanks to Yuvraj Singh.
The former India cricketer took the likes of Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh under his wings and made them sweat at his personal gym. Yuvraj conducted two long camps on behalf of Punjab Cricket Association at Mohali’s PCA Stadium where the talented quartet trained to fine-tune their skills. The emphasis was also given on mental strengthening during the camp.
Rather the players stayed at Yuvraj Singh’s place for two months and the cricketer served them the home-cooked food to make them comfortable. Speaking about the experience, Abhishek Sharma, who will play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, thanked Yuvi and also stated that he will be in touch with him from the UAE as well.
“Yuvi paaji has been extraordinary as a mentor. Seeing how he conducts himself, I can easily say he is a superb human being too. He treated us like younger brothers and made us feel at home during the pandemic. Our parents were a bit worried by the surge in cases. But Yuvi paaji came to our rescue as we could stay at his place.
“He not only worked on our skills and mental strength but also played with us during practice matches. He asked us to play according to different match situations. And when we could not deliver, he showed how to do it. I am going to be in touch with him from the UAE,” Sharma was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
I want to make Yuvi paaji proud, says Anmolpreet Singh
Anmolpreet Singh is set to turn out for the Mumbai Indians this season. He was picked by the franchise last season itself but didn’t get any game and will be hoping to make his IPL debut soon. Anmolpreet wants to make his mentor, Yuvraj Singh proud with his performance this season. “I am looking forward to playing more games this season. And this time, I am raring to go out there and just express myself. I want to make Yuvi paaji proud.
“I was lacking in the confidence department a bit after the season ended. He just told me to forget everything and play my natural aggressive game. He also worked on a lot of technical things,” he said.
