Yuvraj Singh 'warns' Rohit Sharma after Mumbai batsman wishes him on his birthday
The second match of the series will start in Perth on Friday and it is to be seen whether Rohit can extend his Test career further.
One of India’s star cricketers Yuvraj Singh turned 37 on December 12 and a deluge of wishes came in from fans and colleagues and one of them was from ace batsman Rohit Sharma who recently made a comeback to the Indian Test side in Australia. However, Yuvraj didn’t let go the opportunity to rebuke Rohit over his failure in the first Test in Adelaide though it was never something serious. The fans hope the Mumbai batsman will keep in mind the senior cricketer’s words the next time he takes stance in a Test, given he gets to play another, that is.
After missing almost a year of Test cricket, Rohit was picked for the current series in Australia after he came up with a consistently good show in the limited-overs version. He was discarded as a Test cricketer after the series in South Africa and missed games against Afghanistan, England and the Windies but eventually got a call back for the Australia series. He got to play in the first match but managed 37 and 1 in the two innings though India won the match by 31 runs. Rohit made the cut into the playing XI ahead of youngster Hanuma Vihari.
Yuvraj warns Rohit of ‘dire consequences’ if he failed again in Australia
Yuvraj was quick to zero in on Rohit’s innings of 37 at No.6 which was a sort of counter-attack after India were reduced to 41 for 4 on the morning of Day 1. He hit three sixes in his 61-ball knock but the promising innings did not last long. When Rohit tweeted congratulating Yuvraj on his birthday, calling him an “eternal superstar”, the latter warned him saying if he got out for 37 again, he would catch him by his neck.
For making Rohit understanding the ‘seriousness’ of his warning, Yuvraj also responded to the photo in which he is seen grabbing Rohit’s neck in an Indian Premier League match. Rohit is seen in the jersey of Mumbai Indians, the team he leads in the tournament, while Yuvraj is donning the jersey of Kings XI Punjab, his current team. The fact that Rohit is in his batting guards gives an impression that Yuvraj is trying to discourage him from playing too good.
