Today is a day to take note of as it’s the mighty Christopher Henry Gayle’s birthday. Known worldwide for his explosive batting, the flamboyant Jamaican turned 39 today. The entire cricketing fraternity showered love and praises on the southpaw on his special day. Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to micro-blogging platform Twitter to wish his dear friend, Chris Gayle.
What makes Gayle so special is a combination of the gargantuan figures that he’s raked up over the years and his unstoppable batting style. The ability to make the bowler at the opposite end quake with fear is something Chris Gayle revels and specializes in. Bearing testimony to his exploits is the phenomenal record of 40 centuries at the international level.
Yuvraj’s special message for Gayle
Singh and Gayle’s friendship dates back a long time. Apart from facing off against each other regularly at the international level, the duo have played together extensively in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The pair have played together for both the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
As a result, they are known to have a strong bond and reflecting the same emotion Singh captioned his birthday wish for Gayle as “Many happy returns of the day world boss ! Six machine, God bless you , one of my best friends from the game. Live long the king @henrygayle”.
As Singh rightly termed Gayle, the “six-machine” has had an illustrious career over the years, leaving fans and critics gaping with one innings after the other. The powerful West Indies batsman has featured in 103 Tests, 284 ODIs and 56 T20Is wherein he’s scored 7214, 9727 and 1607 runs respectively.
The T20 format, in particular, seems to be Gayle’s favourite hunting ground where he has 863 sixes to his name. The Jamaican scored a blistering inning worth 123 runs in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year in March. Gayle’s firepower will be crucial for his national side going into the World Cup campaign next year.
