India made their chase against the Windies in the first ODI in Guwahati on Sunday look so easy that one of the members of the team quipped that two of India’s centurions in the game – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – control the game in a way as if they are playing video games. The hosts thrashed the Caribbeans by 8 wickets with 47 balls to spare even while chasing a target of 323 and went 1-0 up in the five-match ODI series.

While Kohli (140) returned to ODI cricket after July to slam his 36th hundred and the 60th international ton, Sharma (152 not out) hit his 20th ton to guide India to a dominant victory. The duo put up 246 runs for the second wicket after the other opener, Shikhar Dhawan (4) fell cheaply. For Rohit, this is the second time in three matches that he was involved in a massive partnership after his 210-run opening stand with Dhawan against Pakistan in the Asia Cup held last month.

They play as if it is video game cricket

The leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took three wickets for 41 runs in the game, used a funny analogy at the end of the game to describe the match-winning partnership between Kohli and Rohit, saying, “We enjoy watching them (Rohit and Kohli) bat, they are two legends of the game, (smiles) at times we feel they are playing PS4 (Playstation video game).”

None of the Windies bowlers could make a mark during India’s chase as the Indian captain and vice-captain toyed with the visitors’ attack at will. Skipper Jason Holder had the best economy for the Windies with 5.62 while the two wicket-taking bowlers – debutant Oshane Thomas and spinner Devendra Bishoo – conceded 9.22 and 7.20 runs per over respectively.

The two teams will meet for the second ODI at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam on October 24. The Windies have lost the two-Test series 0-2 and another loss in the ODIs will make it immensely challenging for them to register a comeback against a strong Indian side.
