Yuzvendra Chahal was absolutely phenomenal in yesterday’s game. Picking up a four-wicket haul, he managed to outfox the Sri Lankan batsmen. His fantastic bowling figures ensured he was rewarded the man of the match. The wrist spinner also went on to become the highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals this year.

The leg-spinner pipped both Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) and Kesrick Williams (West Indies) with 17 wickets each to top the bowling charts. Chahal has got 19 wickets this year with 2 T20Is still left. He may well end up as the highest wicket taker of the year in the shortest format.

Yesterday, Upul Tharanga was trying to steer the ship away with some fantastic batting. However, he ended up edging one that was drifting onto the legside to MS Dhoni as Chahal provided the much-needed breakthrough. In his next over, he had Angelo Mathews hand him a return catch as the Islanders lost their most important man.

Asela Gunaratne then tried to charge down the ground but Chahal managed to outfox him by bowling a wide. MS Dhoni behind the stumps meant that the stumps were uprooted in a flash as Chahal created havoc in the Sri Lankan batting ranks. He completed his four-over spell as early as the 12th over.

And this time he had Thisara Perera stumped. The Sri Lankan captain didn’t bother waiting for the third umpire’s decision as Dhoni was unbelievably fast. The leg-spinner ended up with fascinating figures of 4/23. By the time he finished his spell, the Sri Lankans were languishing at 62/6.

India ended up winning the game by an amazing margin of 93 runs. Chahal was also rewarded the man of the match for the same. This wasn’t the first time he pulled a game away from the opposition. Earlier this year against England, Chahal produced sensational figures of 6/25. The English innings faltered from 119/2 to 127 all out.
