As both India and New Zealand gear up for the series decider at Thiruvananthapuram, there has been a good competition going on between the leading spinners of both the team. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ish Sodhi have both had their moments in the T20Iseries so far.
While Chahal had figures of 2/26 in the first game, Sodhi returned with similar numbers 2/25 in the next. In the second game, Chahal was taken away for a few whereas Ish Sodhi has remained more economical. However, when it comes to chess, Chahal checkmated his Kiwi counterpart.
Both the cricketers engaged in a few games of chess in a long flight to Thiruvananthapuram and took on to Twitter sharing their feats. Chahal also happens to be a junior chess champion having represented India at the Asian and World youth championships.
The Indian wrist spinner was the first to share the banter on Twitter. He shared a screenshot of the result of their game after having checkmated Ish Sodhi as he tweeted, “Hard luck my brother”

Sodhi didn’t give up and instead asked for a rematch. However, he too couldn’t help but laud Chahal as a chess champion.
He tweeted, “Rematch has already happend… fair to say, chess champion for a reason @yuzi_chahal #toogood”

Yuzvendra Chahal, in turn, revealed that he was now leading with a margin of 2 nil.

Ish Sodhi responded saying that it was a long flight and he still stood a chance to cover it all up.

Even after having reached the hotels, Sodhi was all in for round 3 as he had the chess table set for Chahal.
He tweeted, “ Ready for round 3 @yuzi_chahal bhai! Jaaldi aajo! #INDvsNZ “

And it seemed like Yuzi managed to make it 3 nil as well with his following tweet.

The fans enjoyed the banter. It’s always a pleasant sight to watch cricketers from two countries share a great bond as the fans had a good time watching the other side of cricketers out of the field. While Chahal may have won the chess competition, he knows there is a bigger competition that awaits. He would want to deliver this time and help India seal the series as both teams take the field in Trivandrum.
