Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who currently serving the India ‘A’ team, is not worried about whether he gets a call for the last two Tests in England. The 28-year-old bowler, who is playing red-ball cricket after two years, said he was concentrating on the ongoing second unofficial Test against South Africa ‘A’ at the moment and if his name didn’t feature in the squad for the remaining two Tests, then his focus be on Asia Cup scheduled next month.
Chahal, who last played red-call cricket for Haryana in Ranji Trophy in December 2016, didn’t produce a special performance in the unofficial Tests, taking four wickets in two innings but he was planning to work more on the longest format which he feels tests the bowlers more.
Longer form the real test
“In ODIs and T20s, if the run-rate is high, then the batsman tries to go after you and get out. But in the longer form you need to get them out with your skills. You need to use your brain more. So it’s quite different because you need to bowl 30-35 overs here, but only four overs in T20s,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Chahal as saying.
Chahal played in the limited-overs format in the tours of Ireland and England last month. Though he got only three wickets in the three-match T20I and ODI series against England, the leggie did well in the preceding T20I games against Ireland, claiming six scalps in two games to be adjudged the man of the series.
Indian selectors announced the Test squad for the first three games and as the third match is about to begin in the next five days, speculation is rife about the changes the squad might see, especially after the lacklustre performance by the team in the first two Tests.
“Not even thinking about the squads for the last two Tests in England. My experience of England was very good because it was my first tour, but my focus is on this game. If my name doesn’t come, then my mind will be on the Asia Cup. So I’ll shift my focus on that series after this game,” Chahal said.
India ‘A’ coach Rahul Dravid recently advised the leg-break bowler to play more red-ball cricket to hone his skills as a bowler. Chahal has so far played in 26 ODIs and as many T20Is for India, claiming 45 and 42 wickets, respectively.
