Yuzvendra Chahal reveals Rohit Sharma’s new nickname

Rohit Sharma and Yuzvendra Chahal have always shared a great camaraderie. Both of them have been key members of the Indian cricket team for quite a few years now. In fact, Rohit and Chahal also played together for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). The duo has also been involved in some hilarious conversations on social media platforms.

Recently, the 29-year-old Chahal made some revelations on his India teammate. The 33-year-old Rohit is generally known by the nickname of Ro-Hit or Hitman owing to his stupendous hitting qualities. But Chahal had something funny in store. One of his teammates earlier saved Rohit’s number by a different name.

“Ek hain senior cricketer, inhone Rohit Sharma ka naam likha tha a[ne phone pe ‘Rohita Sharma’. Toh wahan se phir jo unhone bataya, phir main tabse……..(There is one senior cricketer who had saved Rohit Sharma’s name in his phonebook as ‘Rohita’. So, when he revealed the same to me since then I’ve been calling him as Rohita),” Chahal was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.

Rohit has been a key component of the Men in Blue for quite a few years. Ever since he started opening the batting, the Nagpur-born, he changed as a batsman. MS Dhoni’s decision to promote him higher up the order did work wonders. He is also the only batsman with as many as three double centuries in ODI cricket, twice against Sri Lanka and once versus Australia.

He also has the highest individual score of 264 against the Lankans at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rohit is also the only batter to smash as many as four centuries in T20I cricket. He is also among the leading run-scorers in T20I cricket along with his skipper Virat Kohli. Last year, he also stamped his authority in Test cricket, smashing a century against the visiting South Africa team.

Chahal, on the other hand, has been a genuine wicket-taker for the Men in Blue. In 52 ODIs and 42 T20Is, the 29-year-old has 91 and 55 wickets respectively. In the IPL, he is currently a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore where he has managed to weave his magic as well.
