Gone are those days when a 100 meters sprint followed by light exercise used to be the scheduled work out for the cricketers on an off-day. The Indian team of today doesn’t believe in a day off. Fitness has been added to their lifestyle and the impact is there to be seen for all. Yuzvendra Chahal posted a picture with some of his well known colleagues, as the players sweated out in the gym.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been rested for the Test series against Sri Lanka, was seen lifting weights along with veteran Yuvraj Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Kedar Jadhav and Dinesh Karthik. Yuvraj is preparing for the fitness test. While Karthik, who had an impressive outing against New Zealand was seen going through his regular routine work.
Fit athletes, successful cricketers
Pacer Bumrah recently flaunted his abs on Twitter. The skipper of the Indian team Virat Kohli is well-known for his fitness regime. He is one of the fittest cricketers around and as Karthik once said, Kohli has built his lifestyle around fitness. “With a leader like Virat, who has absolutely got it spot on in terms of fitness, he has built his lifestyle around it. The team members are learning a lot from that and they can see the exceptional performances he has been able to give in the last 5-6 years. It has trickled down to the players.” Karthik once told the reporters.
Just like Nehra, Karthik too doesn’t find the Yo-Yo test too tricky. “The current benchmark is pretty achievable. Anybody who puts in a bit of effort can reach that mark. There is nothing earth-shattering about it. It only starts getting tougher from 17.5 onwards. There has been a lot of hue-and-cry about it but it is pretty achievable for most sportsmen,” Karthik explained.
