Ravi Ashwin, on the opening day of the Test series against England, proved why he is so rated so highly in the longest format of the game. His figures of 4/60 were the best for an Indian spinner on the first day of a Test match in England. He was introduced into the attack in the seventh over itself and the off-spinner extracted turn and bounce from the damp surface. The same was identified by the renowned Pakistan journalist Zainab Abbas and she praised the Indian offie only to irk the fans in her country.

Many raised the eye-brows when Kohli handed over the ball to Ashwin which was still brand new. The move was probably due to the two left-handers batting in the middle. However, it paid off immediately for the visitors as he bowled a snorter of a delivery to disturb the timber of Alastair Cook only in the second over of his spell.

There were definitely some jitters in England dressing room after they saw the ball turning square to leave one of their best batsman shocked. They approached him cautiously since then but couldn’t stop him from picking wickets until stumps.

Zainab’s prediction

Zainab Abbas was following the game from Pakistan and while Ravi Ashwin was delivering his first spell, she felt that he was bowling well and might be in for a long haul with the turn he was extracting from the pitch. “Ashwin has bowled beautifully so far at the right pace, might be a long day for him considering the bounce on day one #ENGvIND,” she wrote on her official Twitter handle analysing the proceedings at Edgbaston.

But Pakistani fans didn’t like her praising and following Indian cricket. They bashed Zainab for her comments and requested her not to promote Indian sports always. She had also come under the scanner for praising a certain player during the IPL.

Here’s her tweet:
