Zimbabwe announce squads for Sri Lanka tour, Wellington Masakadza recalled

Zimbabwe have announced the ODI and Test squads for their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. Wellington Masakadza, the left-arm spinner, has been recalled to the squads and is in line to make his Test debut. It is more than a year back, in December 2015, that Maskadaza featured for Zimbabwe in an ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah. The 23-year-old, who has bagged 15 wickets in 10 ODIs and eight in seven T20Is, did play in an international game in March 2016. However, he is yet to feature in a Test match.

There were three recalls to the squad for the only Test match of the tour, viz. Regis Chakabva, Carl Mumba and Natsai Mishandle. Uncapped allrounder Nathan Waller, who was a part of Zimbabwe’s squad during the Afghanistan series back in February, was also picked.

The ones who were left out were Solomon Mire, Richard Ngarava and Chamu Chibhabha. Thus, the likes of Mire and Ngarava will have to wait a bit longer for their Test debuts. Meanwhile, the African country will play five ODIs and a one-off Test match in what is their first tour to the Island country since a three-Test series in December-January 2001.

The five-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on 30 June 2017 while the Test will start on 14 July 2017.
