Zimbabwe player hospitalised in Sri Lanka
The 23-year-old Burl took to Twitter to thank the hospital staff which took care of him during the crisis.
The Zimbabwe Cricket team is currently in Sri Lanka where they are playing the hosts in five ODIs and a solitary Test. The visitors won the first ODI by 6 wickets, Sri Lanka squared things up soon winning the second ODI by 7 wickets, while the third one is currently underway. Their batsman Ryan Burl, who didn’t get to bat in the first ODI and scored 9 runs in the second, had to be hospitalised after he faced an allergic reaction to fish.
The 23-year-old Burl took to Twitter to thank the hospital staff which took care of him during the crisis. Thankfully, he had to spend only one night in the hospital before being discharged. Zimbabwe Cricket’s official Twitter account broke the news that the batsman was hospitalised midway through the currently underway third ODI. In today’s game, Carl Mumba has been added as a replacement for Burl.
“Thank you very much to the doctors and staff at Hambantota hospital for helping me recover! A terribly frightening experience” tweeted Burl.
Before that, Zimbabwe Cricket tweeted saying, “GET WELL SOON! @ryanburl3 missed today’s ODI in Hambantota after he was hospitalised last night for an allergic reaction to fish #SLvZIM
“So good to hear after being discharged from the hospital that the boys put 310 runs on the board against Sri Lanka,” he tweeted again. The fourth ODI will be played on July 8 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota.
Playing international ODIs since February 2017
He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in February this year and scored a 46-ball 28. Since 2014 he has been playing first-class cricket and has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit as well. The youngster will be keen to be fit for the next ODI and prove his mettle. He has not been able to inspire much confidence in his very brief career thus far.
