Zimbabwe have recalled both Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis in the Test squad for the 2-match Test series against West Indies. The series will be starting this Sunday at Bulawayo, and the hosts will look to make a solid impression from the ‘word go’. Australia-based all-rounder Solomon Mire has also been named in the Test squad and he is likely to make his debut against West Indies.
Zimbabwe were impressive during their last Test match against Sri Lanka. They have made seven changes in their squad as Ryan Burl, Tendai Chatara (due to an injury), Tarisai Musakanda, Carl Mumba, Natsai Mushangwe, Nathan Waller and Donald Tiripano have been excluded.
Wicketkeeper Nyasha Mayavo and left-arm bowler Tendai Chisoro are the other two uncapped players in the squad for the home team. The duo will look for an opportunity to prove their mettle. Mayavo might well have to play the waiting game as Regis Chakabva is Zimbabwe’s regular wicket-keeper, and it is unlikely that he will sit out.
Old guns back in the squad
28-year old Kyle Jarvis last played a Test match way back in 2013 while with the addition of Taylor, 31, the hosts will be benefitted with a bundle of experience. Zimbabwe’s main priority now is to prepare for the 2019 World Cup qualification but at the same time they also look to play more Test cricket as now there are two new teams with the arrival of Afghanistan and Ireland. After hosting the team from the Caribbean, Zimbabwe will travel to South Africa for the much-anticipated 4-day Test match. The upcoming matches will be very crucial for the African nation.
Zimbabwe Squad:
Graeme Cremer (C), Hamilton Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Chamu Chibhabha, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Malcolm Waller, Peter Moor, Regis Chakabva, Michael Chinouya, Chris Mpofu, Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chisoro, Nyasha Mayavo.
