Zimbabwe v India T20I series: 5 players to watch out for

With the Zimbabwe v India ODI series done and dusted, the focus now shifts to the 3-T20I series between the two teams. Having been thrashed out of sight in the recently concluded ODI series 3-0, the hosts will be hoping to give a better account of themselves in the shortest format. With three T20 internationals to be played in a short span of time, there will certainly be a few players who will most definitely have their say in the proceedings. That said, here are the 5 players to watch out for in the upcoming T20 internationals. 1. KL Rahul: India’s batsman KL Rahul eyes the ball during the first one-day international (ODI) matches between India and host Zimbabwe. Having made his Test debut at Perth in 2014, Rahul finally made his debut in the ODI circuit against Zimbabwe at Harare in the first ODI. He smashed a massive 196 runs in the three-match series. He also remained unbeaten on 100 in the first ODI, a performance that saw him win the man-of-the-series award. Having impressed in the recently concluded IPL with the bat, all eyes will be on the 24-year old as he sets off on his T20 career as well. (Photo Source: BCCI) ‘Popeye’s’ first tour to Zimbabwe in the India jersey saw him become a cult hero for the Indians. Similar to his RCB teammate KL Rahul, Chahal starred with the ball in the ODIs for the Indians. In spite of Jasprit Bumrah claiming the most number of wickets, Chahal finished in second place with 6 wickets to his name. The 25-year old leg-spinner also completed an impressive 3/25 in the third ODI as well as boasts of an economy rate of 3.20. That said, eyeballs will certainly be on Chahal as he will aim to use the experience he amassed in the IPL with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. 3. Chamu Chibhabha: Chamu Chibhabha. (Photo Source: AFP) Chamu Chibhabha was easily Zimbabwe’s best player in the recently concluded ODI series. In spite of the drubbing and the terrible margins of victory, Chibhabha was the lone consistent contributor to Zimbabwe’s cause with both bat and ball. With the T20 internationals coming thick and fast, Chibhabha will be hoping that he can replicate the same fighting spirit he showed in the ODI series. Elton Chigumbura: Zimbabwe batsman Elton Chigumbura in action. The slump also saw Chigumbura lose his place in the side as well as the captaincy to incumbent skipper Graeme Cremer. However, the upcoming T20 series against India will be a chance for Chigumbura to gain redemption for all the misfortune he has had to encounter in the past few months. Although he didn’t pick up as many wickets as he would have liked, Sran proved to be the perfect foil for strike bowlers Dhawal Kulkarni and Jasprit Bumrah. Sran proved to be a genius when it came to swinging the ball as he made the ball do most of the talking. He concluded the series with 4 wickets to his name. Although the T20s will be a different ball game for Sran, it remains to be seen whether he can continue the same way or nor.
