After trouncing the hosts Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the series opener, KL Rahul-led team India is set to face the African country in the second match on August 20, 2022, at the same venue in Harare. Three wickets each from pacers Deepak Chahar and Prasidh Krishna and spin bowler Axar Patel meant the Zimbabweans never got going in their innings and got bundled out for just 189. Openers Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan then struck unbeaten 80s to take their side home comfortably in 30.5 overs.
Speaking more about the opening fixture, the home team had no answers whatsoever against a solid Indian bowling line-up led by Chahar, who made his long-awaited comeback after an injury. The seamer set the tone up for the visitors by picking up three of the top four wickets. He was well supported by the impressive Krishna and Axar, who reached his personal milestone of 50 wickets in the format.
The hosts had to rely on their bowlers lower down the order in reaching a total of above 180. But the target looked a mere formality for the Indian openers who shared their third-century partnership in six ODI innings so far. Regis Chakabva, the Zimbabwean skipper will hope for his team to make a comeback after drubbing and keep the series alive. The tourists would want to continue their dominance over Zimbabwe as they have beaten them in 13 matches on the trot now.
