Australia women managed to register an emphatic victory against India women at the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Both sides locked horns at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 13, and after posting a total of 151 runs on the board in the first innings, Australia put in an excellent performance with the ball as well.
Coming out to defend the target, the Aussies limited the Indian women to a score of 142 runs, winning the game by nine runs. The side’s win saw them solidify themselves at the top of the standings to end their group stage campaign
Stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath took centre stage and highlighted the mentality that Australia women have been following for many years now. She opined that the side wants to win every single game that they play in the tournament.
“Yes, absolutely. We want to win every game we play. We knew it was going to be a really big challenge for us today. They came really hard at us. I am just really proud of the group. We have our nerve at the end there. Obviously, nobody likes injuries, especially to some of the big players. An injury to a captain is always tough. [on captaining today] I was mumbling a bit. No, everyone has been great,” McGrath said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
It was a little hard to assess: McGrath
Furthermore, Tahlia McGrath talked about the nature of the pitch in the clash between India and Australia. She opined that the surface was a tricky one and revealed having multiple chats with her teammates to better plan ahead.
“It was a little bit hard to assess. The ball was skidding on with a bit of pace. When you took the pace up, it was just holding and gripping a bit. We thought it slightly changed in the second inning. There were lots of discussions. [on par score] We were constantly talking about what is a path forward or what do we want to get to. We were having lots of conversations. Whoever is out there, knows there is so much depth behind it,” she said.
