Delhi Capitals have had a roller coaster season in the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024. Having played 12 matches in the season so far, the side has managed to win six matches and lost the remaining six. Despite a rocky start to the tournament, the team has managed to improve.

However, opener Prithvi Shaw has been unable to pick up on his form. In 8 matches, he has 198 runs at a strike rate of 163.64. He was not part of the XI in against Rajasthan Royals and has been replaced by the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel in the opening spot.

Speaking of his performances, former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has advised Shaw to focus on his game. Akram admired the opener’s talent but opined that he should be focusing on his cricket rather than parties.

“I haven't watched him closely this year, but he has to go back to basics, play first-class cricket, and score big. Focus on cricket, not parties,” Akram told Sportskeeda. “He has still got plenty of cricket in him, just go back and play first-class cricket. Get a lot of centuries and make a comeback. That's the only way. There's no shortcut. He has got time on his hands, and that's good for him."

He has to play regularly: Wasim Akram

Furthermore, Akram opined that Prithvi Shaw needs to play regularly to reach his true potential. The batter last played for India in 2021, when he was part of the side's squad for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. Akram reflected on how Shaw needs to look after himself as well.

“He has to play regularly, and look at himself off the field. Do as many parties as you want after you retire, who cares. But now, focus on cricket,” Akram said.

As for Delhi Capitals, the side will continue their IPL campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, May 12.
