IPL 2024 Purple Cap Holder List: Fiery Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah leads the Purple Cap race in the ongoing IPL 2024 with 14 wickets after CSK vs SRH, Match 46.
Bumrah has been at his usual best this season leading MI’s bowling lineup. His best performance came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) where he ended up with five wickets giving just 21 runs during Match 25, in Mumbai.Harshal Patel from Punjab Kings (PBKS) is the joint-highest wicket-taker with Bumrahand is also among the top contenders for the Purple Cap. The right-arm pacer has been consistent with the ball in the ongoing season and has been picking crucial wickets for his side in tough situations. Harshal has been taking wickets at an average of 23.28 and a strike rate of 13.71.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has once again proved why he is one of the best bowlers of the league. He comes next on the list with 13 wickets. The 33-year-old recently became the first player to pick 200 wickets in the history of IPL. His best figures came when he claimed a three-wicket haul in the 14th match of the season against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians.
SRH speedster T Natarajan has risen to the sixth spot on the Purple Cap list on the back of a sensational four-fer against Delhi Capitals in Match 35. He added two more to his wicket tally during Match 41 against RCB. The 33-year-old has taken 12 wickets in just 6 matches at an average of 17.42. Interestingly, Natarajan has played the least number of matches in the Top 4 of Purple Cap list.
With a figure of 3/59 against Mumbai Indians in Match 43, Mukesh Kumar has moved to the fourth on IPL Purple Cap list. The 30 year old has taken 13 wickets in 7 matches so far having bowled the least number of balls (153) among the top five. Mukesh however would want to get his economy of 11.06 a bit lower in the upcoming matches.
Kuldeep Yadav, the man with the golden arm for the Delhi Capitals franchise, displayed his sublime best during the game versus Gujarat Titans at home. Playing at Kotla, Yadav took a couple of wickets, giving away just 29 runs in his four-over spell. With this stupendous performance, the orthodox spinner stormed into the Purple Cap race with 12 wickets in seven games.

In the inaugural IPL season in 2008, the Purple Cap award was won by Sohail Tanvir. The Pakistan left-arm seamer scalped a total of 22 wickets in the tournament and scalped his wickets at a stupendous average of 12.09.
The first Indian cricketer to have been the recipient of the Purple Cap award is former left-arm fast bowler RP Singh during the 2009 season of the IPL. Singh took 23 wickets at a strike rate of 15.50 to bag the award.
Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the only two cricketers to have won the Purple Cap award on two occasions. While Bravo won the award in 2013 and 2015, Kumar laid his hands on the Purple Cap in 2016 and 2017.
The other players to have been the recipient of the Purple Cap award in IPL history are Pragyan Ojha, Lasith Malinga, Morne Morkel, Mohit Sharma, Andrew Tye, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal.
In the 14th edition of the IPL, Harshal Patel won the Purple Cap award. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer scalped a gargantuan 32 wickets to win the Purple Cap award in 2021.
