Delhi Capitals (DC) host Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 7, in match No. 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Delhi are coming off a defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens by seven wickets in a lopsided affair. The Rishabh Pant-led side is still in contention for the playoffs with five wins and six losses from 11 games. However, they can ill-afford slip-ups with the jostling for the top four spots getting more intense every day.

Pant has been in excellent form for the Capitals in IPL 2024. It doesn't seem like the 26-year-old is playing competitive cricket for the first time in 14 months. In 11 matches, the wicketkeeper-batter has scored 398 runs at an average of 158.57.  The young Australian sensation, Jake Fraser-McGurk, has been a phenomenal addition for the Capitals. He has played some awe-inspiring knocks and has aggregated 259 runs from six games at an average of 43.17 and a strike rate of 233.33.

Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav have been the standout bowlers for Delhi after Khaleel Ahmed's performances have taken a dip following a bright start to the season. Mukesh has bagged 13 wickets from seven games at an average of 21.69. However, his economy rate is a disappointing 11.06. Meanwhile, Kuldeep has taken 12 wickets from eight matches at an average of 21.83 and an economy rate of 8.45.

The Royals have a chance to reclaim the pole position in the points table. They are currently placed at No. 2, having won eight out of their 10 games in IPL 2024. A win on Tuesday will help them displace the Knight Riders at the top of the table.

Rajasthan have one of the most fearsome opening duos in the league in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler. However, both have blown hot and cold this season. Yashasvi got off to a dismal start in IPL 2024 but has managed to score a century and a half-century in two of Rajasthan's last three matches. Buttler has slammed two centuries so far and got off to some exhilarating starts but has failed to replicate the consistency levels he has shown in yesteryears. Riyan Parag has been the leading run-getter for the inaugural champions. In nine innings, he has amassed 409 runs at an average of 58.43 and a strike rate of 159.14. Skipper Sanju Samson has also fared well, having scored 385 runs from 10 innings at an average of 64.17 and a strike rate of 159.09.

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal has been the pick of the Rajasthan bowlers. The veteran leg-spinner has picked up 13 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 28.31. However, he has been quite expensive by his standards, conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.68. Sandeep Sharma has been excellent in the death overs. Avesh Khan has also bowled well in some matches.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report and Conditions

Three games have been played so far at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2024 and all of them have been run-fests. 199 is the lowest score registered by a team so far in IPL 2024 at the historic venue. The average first innings score is an incredible 249. All three games have been won by teams batting first. Winning the toss and batting first could be a good option but any target less than 210 could be a cakewalk. Yes, it sounds crazy but that is how flat the pitches have been. Bowlers can ask for incentives for bowling on this ground.

Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals (DC)

The Capitals were forced to bring in Kumar Kushagra as the Impact Player in the last game as they lost quite a few wickets at the top. This didn't help their cause, as the youngster was dismissed cheaply and Mukesh, who would have been the first-choice Impact Player, had to remain on the bench. The right-arm pacer should return to the playing XI. The Delhi contingent will hope for a better effort from their batting unit, so that the Bengal pacer can be used. No other change is expected unless there is some injury concern before the match.

Predicted XI: Jake Fraser McGurk, Prithvi Shaw, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Abhishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Rasikh Salam, Khaleel Ahmed, Lizaad Williams

Impact Player: Mukesh Kumar

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

After losing only their second game in the season, Rajasthan shouldn't be too concerned. Rovman Powell has shown good form and it has made it difficult for Nandre Burger, who impressed in the first half of the season, to make a comeback. The Royals should stick to the same playing XI.

Predicted XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (C & WK), Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal

Impact Player: Sandeep Sharma
