10 Current cricketers who can retire from one format
There are several cricketers in the modern era who have been unable to excel in all three formats of the game.
9. Ish Sodhi (Tests)
Ish Sodhi is an integral part of the New Zealand bowling setup, especially in T20I cricket. In fact, Sodhi has been in stunning form in the T20Is that he has played in 2021, and has already scalped 16 wickets this year at a strike rate of just 9.75. In ODI cricket too, Sodhi has had a decent run.
He has represented the New Zealand side in 33 ODIs and has scalped 43 wickets. While Sodhi is a key bowler for the Kiwis in T20Is and can still make a return to the ODI setup, Sodhi’s Test match career is as good as over. The last time Sodhi played a Test match for the Black Caps was in November 2018 against Pakistan. In fact, the leg spinner had a forgettable run with the red cherry in 2018.
Sodhi could pick up just 3 wickets in 2018 in Test match cricket, and also averaged a high 72.67 as well. Since then, he has not found a spot in the New Zealand Test side and is unlikely to do so in the future as well. It would be best for Sodhi to retire from Test match cricket so that he can focus all his energies on limited-overs cricket from here on.
