10 Absorbing facts about Graham Onions: Another one of Durham’s fast bowler, Graham Onion is a skilfully firm bowler. Often called ‘Bunny’, Graham could have had a blooming career in the international circle if it wasn’t the career threatening injuries. Born on 9th September 1982, the masterful bowler turns 33 today.
Graham Onions is known for his bang-on line and length accompanied with some deadly pace. After his comeback from the back injury words floated about his reduced pace and a question mark on his bowling capabilities away from the responsive Riverside pitches. Graham is a man with great talent and it is unfortunate for the cricket world not to be able to witness his skills on an international platform for long.

1. Before being a cricket player, Graham Onions also trifled with badminton. He was selected for the England U-15 badminton team.
2. Graham like other players started playing cricket in the streets, before making his Second XI debut in the club cricket at the age of 18.
3. He had a dream Test debut against West Indies at the Lord’s in May 2009 where he went on to scalp 5 wickets in the first innings. He finished the debut match with a total of 7 wickets making his way to the headlines.
4. The English medium-pace bowler had a pretty decent spell throughout the Ashes 2009, excluded in the first Test he proved himself worthy with 3 wickets in the 2nd Test. The series ended with 10 wickets for Graham in the 3 Ashes Tests he played.
5. In April 2010, Graham Onion was named among the five cricketers for the 2009 cricketer of the year by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.
6. The biggest blow to Graham’s career was his back injury in 2010 that kept him away from playing till 2011. The back injury probably was one of the main reasons why his international career did not take off.
7. After his recovery from the back injury, the right-handed bowler came back with a bang. In a Test match against West Indies he grabbed 4 wickets off 88 runs. Unfortunately it was the last game he played.
8. Although his first-class numbers are arresting. In a total of 141 matches that he has played Graham scalped 516 wickets. He has 23 five-wicket hauls in first class cricket.
9. Graham Onions also worked his way with the bat, there was a time when he was the savior for the England team. In the Centurion and the Cape Town Test against South Africa Graham saved the day for England twice by keeping his wicket when South Africa needed just a wicket to win. This contribution led to a series draw.

Graham is one of the masterful bowlers of the England team but, his career threatening injuries and sudden drop from the English side even after his contribution with the bat somewhere, Graham failed to succeed in international cricket. Although he still continues to prosper in the domestic side for the Durham side.
