10 Facts About Tom Moody That You Don’t Know: Tom Moody, the prolific Aussie all-rounder, is currently the coach of IPL Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team and cricket analyst. He didn’t want to sit idle after his retirement from professional cricket. He immediately chose to coach young cricketers – the day he bid adieu to the game of cricket.

During his tenure, Tom Moody was a useful right arm medium bowler and gritty middle order batsman in the Australian ODI team for more than a decade. Tom Moody represented Australia in 76 ODIs and scored 1211 runs with 10 fifties. He also grabbed 52 wickets in his ODI career. He has scored 456 runs in 8 tests with 2 centuries and 3 fifties.

1. Nicknames:

Tom Moody earned several naughty nicknames from his teammates such as Shine and Long for his tall height of 6.6 feet.

2. Multi-Talented:

Apart from Cricket, Tom Moody was also well versed in athletics including high jumps and Australian Rules Football. Tom Moody frequently played those matches during his child hood.

3. Early Career:

Tom Moody piled up huge runs tally of 1387 List A runs for Worcenstershire in 1991, which is still a record for the county.

4. List A Career:

Tom Moody was a flamboyant and talented cricketer, scoring more than 11000 runs with 18 tons and 77 fifties in 366 matches. He also scalped 258 wickets as well in this format.

5. First Class Career:

Tom Moody’s first class career is an astonishing one. He gathered more than 20000 runs with 64 tons and 96 fifties in 300 First-Class matches that he played, averaging around 46 and chipped in 361 wickets as well.

6. Two Time World Champion:

The 12 year long cricket career of Tom Moody saw Australia reaching the pinnacle of success. During this period Australia won World Cup twice in 1987 and 1999. Interestingly, at both the occasions Tom Moody was an active player in the squad.

Believe it or not, but Sachin Tendulkar was Tom Moody’s favourite prey. Tom Moody dismissed the iconic batsman a total of 4 times in his 76 ODI match career. This was the highest Moody achieved against any batsman in his ODI career.

8. Success As Sri Lankan Coach (2005-07):

Thanks to Tom Moody’s guidance that prompted Sri Lanka to reach in the final of 2007 Cricket World Cup at Caribbean Islands against Australia. Unfortunately Sri Lanka lost the final but it was only after a long gap of 11 years that the team reached into final of the trophy.

9. IPL Sunrisers Hyderabad Coach (SRH):

Tom Moody was appointed the coach of the new IPL team – Sunrisers Hyderabad who made their debut in the first season in the IPL 2012. In his first stint as a head coach for the team, Moody’s mentored them and helped SRH make it to top 4 of the trophy.

10. Tom’s Take on Australia:

After Australia’s disastrous Ashes test series against England, Tom Moody showed enormous faith in the Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh in the Aussie middle order after the void that has been created due to Clarke and Watson’s retirement.
