10 Love stories of cricketers and Bollywood divas: Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh’s life has been a colourful one, both on and off the field. His affair with Geeta Basra always occupied media glares, but the Punjab lad somehow didn’t accept it publically. With the duo tying the knot now, Bhajji has joined the list of Cricketers choosing Bollywood divas as their partners. Bollywood and cricket go down a long way when it comes to link-ups between cricketers and actresses. There have been numerous affairs between them, but only a few have managed to awaken a great deal of media curiosity due to the glamour attached to both the professions. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore: (source) It all started in 1965 when Sharmila Tagore was in Delhi for a shoot and Tiger Pataudi got introduced to her through some common friends. Legend has it that Tiger gifted Sharmila a refrigerator to win her heart, but the trick did not work. Four years of sending roses and proposing, Sharmila agreed. However, their families still opposed the marriage. After much persuasion the parents agreed and the marriage took place in 1967. 2. Mohammad Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani: (Source) One of the most stirring Page 3 gossip during the 90s is that of former Indian cricket team captain Azharuddin and rising Bollywood actress Sangeeta Bijlani. They met in 1996 when Azhar was at the peak of his career and was one of the most successful captain of India ever at that point of time. Although Sangeeta was struggling in Bollywood with only ‘Tridev’ as her successful movie, but she was still a top-notch model. Azhar had to divorce his wife to marry Sangeeta and after 14 years of married life they got separated in the year 2010. 3. Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh. Amrita Singh too was very popular and both of them were dating each other pretty regularly. But this love story did not have a happy ending. Amrita went on to marry actor Saif Ali Khan while Shastri got married to Ritu Singh. 4. Riya Sen and S Sreesanth: (source) Sreesanth may be married now, but reports about his ‘close’ friendship with actor Riya Sen were the talk of the town, not so long ago. Not that anyone was convinced, but they hid behind the ‘good friends’ label throughout their alleged courtship period, which began when they met on the sets of a jewellery shoot, a few years back. 5. Deepika Padukone and MS Dhoni: Bollywood’s golden girl seems to have quite a fan following among Indian cricket players. Team captain MS Dhoni reportedly had a huge crush on Dippy but things never materialised between them and soon after, Dhoni went on get hitched to his college sweetheart Sakshi. Yuvraj Singh, after his break up with Kim Sharma was also linked to Deepika. Though we don’t know what transpired between them, the actress soon announced that she was in a relationship with actor Ranbir Kapoor. Sadly Deepika and Ranbir’s relationship too didn’t last for very long. She is currently in a steady relationship with actor Ranveer Singh. 6. After a string of relationships, Yuvraj found love in this adorable actress. They were often seen together but later parted ways probably to concentrate on their respective careers. Post break up Yuvraj had to battle cancer in 2011. Kim Sharma is today married to Ali Punjabi a wealthy businessman from Kenya. 7. Stories about them calling it quits and then patching up surfaced more than once during this period. But just when everybody expected marriage to be the next logical step, they decided to end the relationship. Despite attempts to rekindle their romance, the pair could not keep their love alive. Nagma and Sourav Ganguly: (Source) Reportedly, Ganguly met actress Nagma in 1999 at London, when he was already married to Dona Ganguly (his childhood sweetheart). However, a secret affair began and in 2001 reports claimed that the two were spotted at a temple together (and had allegedly even tied the knot). The story made front page headlines, however, Ganguly seems to be still with his family and after that incident and very little was written about the affair. There was also speculations that an Australian player just to make Ganguly’s concentration break, named Nagma as his girlfriend. None of the parties have ever confirmed these relations till date. 9. Both are at the pinnacle of their careers which makes them one of the most popular couples. The versatile actress and the remarkable sportsman never denied about being in a relationship and are often seen together. Anushka and Virat have been supportive of each other when the situation demanded it. The couple got hitched on the 11th of December, 2017 and set to host the reception on 21st of December. 10. Geeta was seen at many of Mumbai Indians’ home matches in the IPL, and the pair were often seen retweeting each other’s posts on social networking site Twitter.
