10 most deserving yet underrated International cricketers: Cricket is a team game with individuality embedded in it. Not always do all XI players of a team get similar attention and hype by media and the viewing public. A superstar in the team is more than enough to overshadow the performances of another equally talented player’s. Cricketing history is filled with examples of great players who never got the credit they deserved. Here is list of 10 most deserving yet underrated cricketers of all time: 1. Rahul Dravid: Rahul Dravid (Photo Source: PA Photos) The Karnataka run machine had to bear the brunt of playing in the same team as the god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar. Quite often his dedicated efforts and fighting knocks went unnoticed. A simple person by nature, Dravid was never the one to complain. More than 11000 test runs, 10000 ODI runs and most catches in test cricket are records that would make even the greats of the game proud. 2. Jacques Kallis: Jacques Kallis. (Photo Source: Associated Press) Kallis is another name for consistency. He is by any standards the greatest all-rounder to have played the game along with Sir Gary Sobers. A rock for South Africa over the years, Kallis helped the side get out of precarious situations on numerous occasions. A batting average of more than Sachin and a bowling average better than Zaheer Khan, there is hardly anything more one could ask from a player. 3. Michael Hussey: Michael Hussey. (Photo Source: AFP) Mr. Cricket as he is fondly known as never got his due, all credit to the fabulous Australian line up he played with. Mike Hussey is a classic case of a fantastic player in a star studded team of guys like Ponting, Gilchrist, and Hayden. He has been an excellent finisher for Australia and one to look up to in pressure circumstances. 4. VVS Laxman: VVS Laxman.(Photo Source: AFP) Laxman was renowned for making runs when it mattered the most. He has played a decisive role in India’s overseas wins over the last 10 years. Be it his knock at Durban in 2010 or the second innings effort in Perth, Laxman has always been the savior for India. Sadly though, he never got the praise he deserved. 5. Younis Khan: Younis Khan. Averaging over 50 in test matches is an outstanding achievement for any batsmen but even after scoring tons of runs in international cricket Younis Khan didn’t get what he deserved. He was often dropped from the team with reasons hard to justify. Apart from his batting skills, Younis was also an exceptional slip fielder. He led Pakistan to victory in the 2009 T20 WC and had an outstanding tenure as captain. 6. Andy Flower: Andy Flower. (Photo Source : Reuters) Andy Flower, the elder of the flower brothers is the greatest ever batsman to come out and play for Zimbabwe. He scored over 4700 runs with an average of 51.54 in his test career that spanned for 63 matches. Flower was also a brilliant wicketkeeper. After finishing his playing career he was appointed the coach of the England cricket team. Playing for Zimbabwe he was often denied the credit he deserved. 7. Stephen Fleming: Stephen Fleming. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Former New Zealand skipper is the greatest ever player to have led the Blackcaps in international cricket. Fleming is well known for his skills as a captain than as a batsman. In a few years after being appointed he became one of the most successful captains for New Zealand. He read the game well and employed clever tactics as a skipper. Fleming is one of the most underrated captains the world has ever seen. 8. Shivnarine Chanderpaul: Shivnarine Chanderpaul. (Photo Source: Associated Press ) Talking about underrated cricketers, one cannot find a better name than Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Chanderpaul who has been the mainstay of West Indies batting line up for almost two decades, still has some fuel left in the tank. He didn’t get what he deserved from the fans. He has played over 150 tests and has over 11000 runs to his name. 9. Mark Waugh: Mark Waugh. (Photo Source: Getty Images) He was nicknamed “Afgan” because of being overshadowed by his brother Steve Waugh and later became the “Forgotten Waugh”. Mark Edward Waugh was one of the most elegant and gifted stoke maker to have ever played the game. Apart from his bating Waugh was a decent off spinner and a terrific slip fielder. Having scored over 8000 runs in both ODIs and Tests, Waugh was one of the most underrated batsmen in the Aussie batting line that had the likes of Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh. 10. Brad Hogg: Brad Hogg. (Photo Source: Getty Images) He was perhaps one of the unluckiest tweakers’ in the game. Despite being a genuine talent, Hogg never got a long term shot in the baggy greens’. One reason for it was that his prime years clashed with those of the legendary spin wizard Shane Warne. Even at the age of 44 he is difficult to pick by most batsmen and still going strong in the IPL and Big Bash.
