10 overseas players who can benefit from addition of two new IPL teams

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has been a prodigious season for the fans and the BCCI. After the tournament got suspended in May 2021 due to the rising Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubble and the country at that time, BCCI came forward to resume the tournament again at UAE in September. BCCI should be given enough credit for the safe and successful cessation of the biggest cricket league in the world. As soon as the 14thedition of the cash-rich tournament got to an end, the IPL Committee tirelessly commenced their duty for the addition of two new teams for the next season. At the end of the auction, the two new teams of Ahmedabad and Lucknow are set to fire up the tournament in 2022. The existing teams could retain a maximum of four players and the two fresh teams can garner four players each ahead of the mega auction which is to be held in the month of December. Though people have not received the retention list of players yet, it is being assumed that the players on the listicle can be on the wish list of the management if they are open to bid. Foreign players who can benefit from two new IPL franchises 1. David Warner David Warner. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Australian opener David Warner is the number one contender in this listicle. Warner is a pro-captain in franchise cricket and has represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad team since 2014 and has captained the side since 2015. This 25-year-old doyen has been a brand of the Hyderabad franchise. There has always been a mutual affection between the fans of Hyderabad and Warner as he has been their first captain to win a title for them and he has also grabbed the orange cap thrice when he played for his team. He was sacked from the captaincy and eventually from the team once his ally Kane Williamson took over in 2021 after consecutive losses in the first phase of the league. It is believed that he won’t be continuing for SRH anymore and could get picked in any of the two teams as a captain figure too. 2. Trent Boult Trent Boult. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Trent Boult– the Kiwi left-arm fast-medium bowler is a player to look out for. Boult has been playing for New Zealand since 2012 and is a well-experienced campaigner. Boult being the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in the 2015 cricket World Cup, was given a maiden call for IPL. Boult was purchased by the Hyderabad team in 2015 and further went on to represent Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 and Delhi Capitals in 2018-19 until he was traded to Mumbai Indians in 2020. He was a key player for the squad in winning the title in 2020. This dynamic bowler would be of great use for the two new teams, as he could be an apt person to lead the pace attack. His swing in the powerplay overs, his ability to take early wickets, and his accurate Yorkers are seen as his major strength. 3. Steve Smith: Steve Smith. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Steve Smith is a noteworthy candidate on this list. He also brings in the captaincy trait along with his batting skills. The two teams would look for an in-built captain as they could build the team around him according to his suggestion as well, for which Smith could be any of the two team’s first choice. Smudge, as called by the cricketing fraternity stepped into the IPL first time as a replacement for Jesse Ryder in 2010 for RCB. He then consistently represented Rajasthan from 2014-16 and after the suspension of the team, he was made to represent Rising Pune Supergiants for two years in which his stint as a captain in 2017 made the team finish as runners. He then re-entered Royals in 2018 and after 3 years, he was picked by Delhi Capitals and might not be retained now. So a team looking for a batter who could captain the side as well would be his description and has a high chance of leading one of the two sides. 4. Joe Root Joe Root. Root debuted his T20I match for England in 2012 and has not been consistent in the 11. He last played in a T20I match in 2019 against Pakistan for the last time since now. Root had a decent career in T20I with an average of 35.72 and a strike rate of 126.30. He confidently expected to get picked in any of the IPL teams after his performance in the 2016 T20 World Cup. Being a marquee player and even though reducing his base price from 2 cr to 1.5 cr, he still failed to attract bids in 2018. After 2018, he has not yet entered the auction pool. As per recent reports, his interest to appear in the most-watched cricket league has not faded away, and is about to give a try in the 2022 auction and could hopefully go his way with the arrival of 2 new teams. 5. Pat Cummins: Pat Cummins. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Like any other Australian player, Pat Cummins is also an aggressive all-rounder. He is a fiery fast-bowler and has all the aspects that a fast bowler needs. He can also be used as a pinch-hitter and if it connects, it could end deadly. This tall-bowler debuted in IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 at an age of 21 but just got a single match in the season. And did not get a proper chance to prove himself until he was picked in the Delhi Daredevils team in 2017. And when he started to emerge in the IPL, his body became his biggest enemy as he was injured and did not play till 2020. KKR again backed him and became one of the vital players in the 13th and first leg of the 14th edition of IPL. A team looking for an aggressive all-rounder could definitely go for him. 6. Moeen Ali: Moeen Ali. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Moeen Ali, an English cricketer of Pakistani descent, is a prolific Batting all-rounder. He can surprise the opposition with the ball and as well as the bat. Royal challengers bought him for INR 1.7 crores in the year 2018. He was not given the chance immediately as they preferred seam bowling all-rounders like Woakes and De Grandhomme. Ali got his chance in the fourth game and won the game for RCB by getting 64 runs which were not enough to convince the RCB management to retain him for next season. However, CSK picked him up for 7 crores in 2021. Moeen was a big success for CSK after its terrible season in 2020. His ability to bat at any position and counterattack the opposition was something that put CSK in the dominant positions many times. Any team looking for a good all-rounder would go for him. 7. Lockie Ferguson: Lockie Ferguson. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Lachlan Hammond “Lockie Ferguson” is a Kiwi pacer who can hit fiercely high speed from a tall frame. He has every potential to become a match-winner for any team. Ferguson is also rather injury prone but what has been impressive is his undying determination to bowl fast. Rising Pune Super Giants who picked him up for the base price of INR 50 lakhs in 2017 played only a handful of matches. In 2019 auctions Kolkata Knight Riders warded off him from Punjab Kings for 1.6 Crores and played only five games. In 2020 too he played 5 games and took 6 wickets including a 3 wicket haul. In 2021 he took 13 wickets in just 8 matches and again with a 3 wicket haul, with an economy of 8.11. A gun pacer with an ability to pick wickets, Lockie could be an X- factor for any team looking for a pace battery. 8. Shakib Al Hasan: Shakib Al Hasan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The 34-year-old experienced all-rounder from Bangladesh has made many good performances with both bat and ball. He made his IPL debut in 2011 for Kolkata Knight Riders. Shakib played for the franchise till 2018 and his tenure was a keynote in KKR’s title victory in both 2012 and 2014. In 2018 he was relieved by KKR and was bought by Sunrisers. He was part of the team till 2020. However, was not able to play during 2019 as he had to go to the ICC World Cup camp. Again he was purchased by KKR in 2021 for 3.2 crores. He has played 71 matches in IPL and has taken 63 wickets with an economy of 7.4. In batting, he has a strike rate of 125 and the highest score of 66. He should be a good buy if any team requires an experienced all-rounder. 9. Quinton de Kock: Quinton de Kock. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Quinton de Kock is a South African cricketer and a former captain of proteas in all three formats. He made his international T20 debut in 2012. Regarding his IPL career, De Kock was bought for 1.5 crores by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction for the 2013 IPL Season. But he failed to impress when he got chances in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad. He was also a part of Delhi Daredevils from 2014-2017. Later in 2019, Mumbai Indians purchased him where he played some crucial knocks which saw Mumbai Indians in the Final. He was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 IPL season. He is undoubtedly a good wicket-keeping batter with a strike rate of 130 in IPL. He might be one of the hot picks in the upcoming auction. 10. Lungi Ngidi: Lungi Ngidi of Chennai Super Kings. (Photo Source: Twitter) Lungi Ngidi is a young right-arm pacer from South Africa. He made his international debut for his team in 2017. He holds decent records in his bowling career. He has played 23 T20I matches and has claimed 36 wickets with an economy of 8.97. He is easily capable of bowling 140 Kph deliveries. The 25-year-old made his debut in IPL in 2018 for Chennai Super Kings. Later he got injuries in 2019 and was dropped from the playing eleven. He again made his comeback in 2020 and was in the squad in 2021 too. If at all the franchise drops him out for the next auction, he might impress the two teams who need a tall fast bowler with good variations and bouncers and will go for a good price.
