Finally, the second leg of IPL 2021 has begun and the fans from all around the world are getting into the groove of the T20 carnival. Since the second leg of IPL will also be the last event before the mega auction, the buzz and the enchantment to see our favourite players and teams perform is more vigorous and sentimental.
However, the players who have drastically malfunctioned or have gone into a descent might find the mega auction a bit loathing merely because of a profusion being available. Since largely all teams will be starting from scratch, their hefty wallets will only indulge them into buying quality players and avoid the dingy bets.
Overall, though no one can predict the results of auction dynamics, the underperformers will still eventually be considered as a last resort in terms of purchasing in the 2022 mega auction. Hence in this list, let’s check out 10 such cricketers who might not receive a contract in IPL 2022.
1. Ajinkya Rahane
Over the years, Ajinkya Rahane has been a splendid top-order batsman in the IPL for many teams. Especially for the RR franchise, Rahane used to be a vital cog in their batting lineup and has often amassed more than 350 runs in many seasons. The cricketer also twice stacked more than 500 runs in two different IPL seasons (2012 & 2015) and overall has a career average of 31.52 along with a total of 3941 runs from his 151 games.
However, since his recent transfer, the batter hasn’t been able to fire runs at all and has drastically underperformed for DC. Last year in IPL 2020, the Mumbai batter played 9 games wherein all he managed was a total of 113 runs at an average of 14.12. In fact, even in his last two IPL games, Rahane has collectively scored only 8 runs.
Now such a severe malfunction from one of India’s prominent batters has considerably raised concerns about his T20 batting. Especially now at a time when the T20 game vigorously demands those batters who can consistently tonk the ball, Rahane’s old school gameplay might eventually won’t allure many teams in the next cycle.
Overall, the cricketer might still be one of the best classical batters present today but his IPL career now seems to be very grim after the 2021 IPL.
