The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) a List A club cricket tournament in Bangladesh has over the last few years attracted a lot of attention given the inclusion of overseas players. The competition follows a round robin format followed by the playoffs among the top teams to decide the winner and among the bottom teams to determine relegation. Usually the two lowest-finishing teams are demoted to the second division known as the Dhaka First Division League for the next season and the top two teams in the second division are promoted.

The 2018 edition of the 12-club competition is all set to kick-start on February 5. The iconic players always grab the headlines in the players draft. Usually, each club picks one iconic player for their team. But this time Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, Brothers Union and newly promoted side Agrani Bank Cricket Club chose not to pick any iconic player for their clubs.

The most successful team and the defending champions Abahani Ltd. signed up Nasir Hossain and Mehedi Miraz. Shinepukur Cricket Club have the Bangladeshi captain Mashrafe Mortaza in their side.

Dhaka Premier League has been hit with controversies with below standard umpiring in the recent past. However, the management assured that such issues will not arise this time around and the tournament will run smoothly.  The Bangladesh team is currently playing the tri-nation series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. It has already defeated Sri Lanka and Shakib Al Hasan seems to be enjoying the new No.3 role.
