15 Facts about Rochelle Rao – The IPL Diva

The Indian Premier League is not only studded with the international cricket stars and celebrity owners but also with a glamorously packed ‘Extraaa Innings’ team. From Navjot Sidhu’s long tricky verses to the ‘thoko band’ – everything about the show is followed by many. But the main spotlight often goes on to the female anchors of the show. This year Rochelle Rao and Pallavi Sharda are the two beautiful ladies walking on the field and talking all cricket. Among the two, Rochelle has been in news more recently due to her stint at the popular show Bigg Boss. But how well do we know her? Here are 15 facts about Rochelle Rao – The IPL Diva:

1. Born on:

Rochelle Rao was born on 25 November 1988 at Chennai in an Anglo-Indian family.

2. Mixed roots and family:

She was born in the state of Tamil Nadu and is of Telugu, German and Anglo-Indian descent. Her mother, Wendy Rao, is an Anglo-Indian and her father, Dr. N. V. Rao is of Telugu-German descent. Her father Dr. N. V. Rao is a medical consultant on herbal extracts and an advocate of natural healing.

3. Education – Degree in Electronic Media

Rochelle is certainly a case of beauty with brains. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media from the M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women.

4. Siblings – Paloma’s early success

She has 3 older siblings. One sister and two twin brothers. Her sister, Paloma Rao, is also a popular VJ and anchor. Interestingly, Paloma found success in the VJ industry much earlier than Rochelle. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that it was on the footsteps of Paloma that Rochelle made a move into the anchoring role.

5. Brother’s death:

One of her brothers Noel Rao, had become a US citizen under a new military rule. He died while serving the US Army in Afghanistan in the year 2006.

6. Love for the Camera:

As admitted by her mother during the finale of reality show Bigg Boss, Rochelle had the love for the camera ever since her childhood. She would often ask her parents to click her pictures. Prior to going to Femina Miss India, she worked as a model and anchor in Chennai.

7. The Big Leap – Femina Miss India:

Rochelle first participated in the Pantaloons Femina Miss India South pageant in early 2012. She was unlucky to have finished as the runner-up as Shamata Anchan bagged the crown. She then participated in Femina Miss India and emerged as the Femina Miss India International 2012 winner.

8. Titles galore:

At the beauty pageant, Rochelle bagged three other titles too. She won the “Miss Glamorous Diva”, “Miss Ramp Walk” and “Miss Body Beautiful”.

9. Faring well at Miss. International 2012:

After winning the crown at Femina Miss India, Rochelle represented India in the Miss International 2012 which was held in Okinawa, Japan. Out of 68 participants, she finished at the 9th position.

10. Anchor with the Extra Innings:

Rochelle’s rise to fame eventually came with her bagging the anchor role with the Indian Premier League show in 2013. She was one of the two female anchors in the show during IPL 6 and was highly appreciated for her work and no wonder she is back with the show this year!

11. Rochelle Rao – A Kingfisher Calendar Girl:

She was asked to feature in the Kingfisher calendar in 2014 following her successful stint as an anchor in the IPL and being Miss India International. Rochelle bagged the February page of the popular calendar.

12. A popular face in reality shows:

Rochelle first appeared as a wild card entrant in the popular dance reality show Jhalak Dikhlaja season 6. She was not selected, though. She then featured in a travel show named “Life mein Ek baar”. Her first major show stint was in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi season 5. However, she was the second contestant to be eliminated.

13. Popularity at Bigg Boss:

Rochelle Rao’s major success came in the reality show Bigg Boss season 9. She was in the house with beau Keith Sequeira and garnered a lot of attention. She gained huge popularity during the show and was one of the four finalists of the show. Eventually, the reality show was won by Prince Narula, the guy with whom she entered the house.

14. Movie stint:

Rochelle will be hoping to bag a movie role in a Bollywood flick. While her boyfriend Keith Sequeira has done a lot of cameos in movies, she has done just one. She had a cameo in the Bollywood movie Fitoor which release in February 2014.

15. Love life:

Rochelle Rao has been dating VJ Keith Sequeira and the couple were seen in the Bigg Boss house together. Keith is a popular face among VJs and has done cameos in daily soaps and movies.
