19-year-old Arshdeep Singh thanks god after getting an IPL contract
Arshdeep has been impressive form of late.
19-year-old Arshdeep Singh hasn’t had much experience in India’s domestic circuit. The left-arm fast bowler has picked up six wickets in as many List A matches for Punjab with his best of figures of 2/17 coming against Vidarbha in Alur. The Guna, Madhya Pradesh-born speedster also played the U19 World Cup in New Zealand under the leadership of teen sensation Prithvi Shaw.
Recently, he also had the privilege of getting picked in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) when he was picked up at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. At Jaipur’s Jaipuriya Vidyalaya Ground, Arshdeep wreaked havoc against Rajasthan, representing Punjab U23 in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy. He took eight wickets in the second innings, including a hat-trick in the second innings.
I was surprised when my teammates told me
Moreover, he ended with a 10-wicket haul as Arshdeep’s team won by an innings and 208 runs. Thereafter, Arshdeep returned to his hotel and crashed on the bed after which his teammates went up to him and congratulated him, saying that Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had picked him up.
“Mumbai Indians and KXIP had called me for trials but I was looking only to break into the Punjab Ranji Trophy side this season. God was kind enough to give me an IPL contract,” Arshdeep was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
“Playing Katoch Shield then and not sure of making the IPL, I was hoping only to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Honestly, I was surprised when my teammates told me in Jaipur that KXIP had picked me,” he added.
“Arshdeep’s success is because of his hard work and dedication. He bicycles 13 kilometres from our house in Kharar to Chandigarh’s Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, for practice,” Arshdeep’s father Darshan Singh, formerly of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), mentioned.
