3 Indians who might be dropped from ODI squad for West Indies series
A few players from the South Africa series are expected to be dropped and that will make way for some new players to feature in the squad.
2. Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer was seen as a bowler before the South Africa series. However, he didn’t get a chance to bowl in the first ODI. He made his ODI debut for India in the first ODI in Paarl. He was picked as a replacement for injured Hardik Pandya as India are in a search of a fast-bowling all-rounder who could play all three formats for ages.
Iyer batted at No. 6 in the first two ODIs and scored 24 runs off 40 balls that he faced in the series. It could be seen that he is not comfortable batting at No. 6 position as he is a top-order batter. He bowled five overs in the second ODI but was wicketless for 28 runs.
Shardul Thakur is evolving as an all-rounder and he even played two good knocks in the South African series scoring his maiden ODI fifty. He has also been a consistent wicket-taker with the ball for India. Deepak Chahar also played a quality knock in the third ODI and there never were any questions about his quality of bowling. Hence, India can invest in these two to become all-rounders and Iyer might be dropped.
