Jasprit Bumrah’s debut campaign coincided with Mumbai Indians’ first IPL title. Although he didn’t play a big role in that season, he has made a huge impact in the last few years on not only Mumbai Indians, but also the Indian team.

When the Indian team desperately needed a death overs’ bowler, Jasprit Bumrah came to the party through the IPL, which acted as a boon for cricket in the country. The Gujarat pacer has managed to be the perfect understudy to Mumbai Indians veteran Lasith Malinga.

It was John Wright, who spotted him in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and drafted him into the squad. In his first 3 seasons with Mumbai Indians, he had claimed a mere 11 wickets in 17 matches but since 2016 he has been one of the most feared bowlers in the tournament. He has picked up 71 scalps in the last 4 seasons which takes his overall tally to 82.

Bumrah has learned the art of bowling accurate yorkers as well as having the ability to trouble the batsmen with the odd slower delivery. Just like Hardik Pandya, he made his debut in ODIs and T20s in 2016 but had to wait 2 years to get his chance in the longer format of the game.

He is the first Asian bowler to take 5 wickets in a Test innings in South Africa, England and Australia during the same calendar year. He is also tḥe third-highest wicket-taker in test matches in a debut year with 48 wickets in 8 matches.

He has gone featured in 14 tests, 64 ODIs and 49 T20Is and he is clearly India’s best bowler in all 3 formats. Having led the charts previously, he is currently 2nd in the ODI rankings for bowlers. He has picked up more than 100 ODI wickets, including a fifer. He has 5 fifers with the red ball, including a 6/27 against Australia.
