Just within 24 hours of getting selected as one of the reserves players for the Indian Test team for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final 2021 and the subsequent series against England, Prasidh Krishna’s tour seems at risk.

This is because the young Karnataka pacer was tested positive with coronavirus, on his return from IPL 2021. It has been reported that his chances of going with the team to England will depend on the fitness which will be assessed before the team leaves.

In case he fails to appear, the Indian selectors might have to replace him with another pacer. In the IPL, he turned up for the Kolkata Knight Riders, captained by 2019 World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan.

Here are the 3 players who can replace Prasidh Krishna as standby player in the WTC Final squad:

1. Ishan Porel

The right-arm fast-bowler from West Bengal is an up-and-coming player, who has been on the radar of the Indian selectors. He first came to the forefront when he was a part of the Indian U-19 team which won the 2018 U-19 World Cup under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw.

Since then, his teammates, like Shaw, Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi, Riyan Parag, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti have gone on to play in the Indian Premier League, but Porel hasn’t. Despite being with the Punjab Kings set-up for the past two seasons, the 22-year-old pacer hasn’t been able to make his debut in the tournament.

However, his domestic records have been quite good. In 22 first-class matches, he has picked 61 wickets at an average of 25.75. In List A cricket, he has taken 47 scalps in 30 matches and also has 29 T20 wickets in 19 games.

These numbers are a cumulative effort of his while playing for Bengal and India A. As part of the A-team, he has toured New Zealand as well. On top of this, he was also one of the alternative or reserve bowlers for the tour of Australia late last year. Sadly, the young bowler had to return to India midway due to an injury. Porel may find himself on the plane to England.
