If you look at the current Indian team, it is Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav who mostly bat in the middle-order. Each one of these players is already into their thirties and could continue to play for another three or four years if the ideal conditions are considered. Hence, the team needs to look at the future prospects as well. They wouldn’t want to end in the kind of situation they were in during the Dhoni era where the transition didn’t go on smoothly.
