India and Pakistan are set to continue their rivalry when both cricketing nations clash in the 2022 Asia Cup match on August 28. Pakistan ended their winless run against India in the ICC World Cup tournament with a big 10-wicket win when both sides faced each other in the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE. Pakistan handsomely lead the head-to-head record but India dominate the Asia Cup tournament with seven trophies to Pakistan’s two.
Both teams are placed in Group A and can face each other two more times in UAE, including in the finals, which has never happened in the tournament’s history. Rohit Sharma is leading a strong-looking Indian squad with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul in his arsenal. On the other hand, Babar Azam captains Pakistan with in-form stars Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi to support him. Fans are already triggered to witness this historic clash at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Apart from the clash, there will be some mouth-watering individual clashes including Shaheen against Virat, and Bhuvneshwar against Babar and Mohammad Rizwan. Both Rohit and Babar are in good form lately and will be looking to beat each other with results and individual performance as well.
The Indian captain has scored over 15000 runs in international cricket and has created and broken many records. Babar, eight years younger than Rohit, has already reached the 10000-run milestone and is likely to break Rohit’s most of the records. But he will find it next to impossible to break Rohit’s following three records.
3 Rohit Sharma’s records that Babar Azam will not be able to break:
1. Rohit Sharma’s 264 runs in an ODI inning
Indian opening batter created history when he smashed 264 runs in an ODI clash against Sri Lanka in 2014. Before that historic knock, only Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virender Sehwag had crossed the 200-run mark with the latter holding the 219-run record against West Indies. Rohit broke many records with that inning and not just Babar but other star batters will also struggle to reach near that 264-run mark.
Babar is no less than any batter when it comes to scoring big runs consistently. He has already scored over 4500 runs in ODI cricket at an average of almost 60 with the help of 17 centuries. But his highest score in the 50-over format is 158 runs which came against England last year.
The Pakistani skipper is even yet to reach the 200-run mark in Test cricket where his best outing is 196 runs which came against Australia this year. Babar remains one of the few current cricketers who can surpass the 200-run mark in ODI cricket but it is impossible to beat Rohit’s 264-run record.
